SUSTAINABLE FASHION

Down to the last thread is one of BRND & Co’s methodology.  Thinking on the top level is not enough these days when it comes to sustainability in the fashion industry.  Everyone must understand the impact of using the wrong fabric and bad practices used in production.  At BRND & Co. they work with suppliers accredited from associations such as the Soil Association, The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) and Fair Wear Foundation.

Organic Cotton Fields

MATERIALS

Their clothing encompasses two materials.  Organic cotton, accounting for less than 1% of the worlds cotton produced, which uses 11x times less water than regular cotton, free from pesticides and harmful chemicals which pollute clean water sources and emits almost 50% less CO2 than regular cotton.  Organic Cotton is also good for your skin especially those with sensitive skin because it is naturally hypo-allergenic.  Recycled polyester, saving consumer waste from landfills, 1 PET bottle at a time.  This newly made material compared to its counterpart has the same quality.  But uses less energy and gives life to a product that was destined for landfill or worse the ocean.  Already there is more than 5 trillion tonnes, that is 5,000,000,000,000.  By 2050 every bird that eats fish will have plastic in their diets.

Methods

Using methods that date back to China and the Song Dynasty in 960–1279 AD.  Screen printing is the preferred method when it comes to putting a design onto garments.  Moving from oil based inks to water based was a huge stride for the industry.  Water based inks remove harmful chemicals from water sources, polluting the environment and also good for the lungs of the printer.  Embroidery is an art in itself, the detail that a needle, moving at speeds of more than 650 stitches per minute can make is incredible.  Using organic cotton thread means we continue our sustainability efforts throughout the whole garment.
